Tania Mallow Jewellery has partnered with BirdCare Aotearoa and photographer Simon Runting to raise awareness for the beautiful Tītī (Cook’s Petrel) and the threats these rare seabirds face from light pollution and human activity.

"I’m so excited to collaborate on this truly special project — pairing my jewellery with Simon Runting’s breathtaking photograph of a Tītī taking flight after rehabilitation. This image carries a powerful conservation message and celebrates the incredible work BirdCare Aotearoa does in rescuing, healing, and releasing wild birds back into their natural habitats. I’m thrilled to offer a way for people to wear their support for these vulnerable species through my limited edition Cook’s Petrel necklace."

Cook’s Petrels spend their lives on the open sea or in the air, only coming to land to nest on Great Barrier and Little Barrier Islands. Their migration route passes directly over Auckland, where city lights can disorient them, causing them to land. Once grounded, they are unable to take off, leaving them vulnerable to predators, traffic, or starvation.
Each summer, BirdCare Aotearoa rescues and rehabilitates hundreds of these stranded birds — a number that is sadly increasing. This necklace helps fund that vital work, while spreading awareness about how to help if you ever encounter an injured or grounded seabird.
