One of New Zealand's most treasured native birds, the Pīwakawaka (Fantail) is loved for its playful nature, cheerful chatter, and graceful fluttering flight. A familiar companion to bush walkers, it often follows along catching the tiny insects stirred up along the track. With its distinctive fan-shaped tail spread wide, the Pīwakawaka seems to dance through the forest, earning its place in Māori tradition as one of the cherished messengers of the native bush.
