Detailed Pōhutukawa leaf earrings, skillfully cast silver from a handmade original, finished with handmade sterling silver hooks.
The native Pōhutukawa tree of New Zealand is one of the top icons of our country. It has won our hearts with its bright red blooms which burst into flowers during the week leading up to Christmas. For this reason it has been crowned as the national Christmas tree of Aotearoa. They grow mainly in warmer coastal areas often precariously clinging to cliff tops and their distinctive leaves are found with holes in them caused by a native beetle. It would be a lucky find a Pōhutukawa leaf without these holes and Tania has carved them beautifully into her silver earrings. This leaf is without doubt a Pōhutukawa leaf. Even without the signature burnt colour of the leaf it is evident which is a testament to Tania’s skill.
Like many of Tania Mallow's other pieces these earrings are created with comfort and quality at the forefront. Materials are not spared on her jewellery and wearing them feels amazing.
Sterling silver is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% pure silver. The alloy composition results in a metal that is very durable and long lasting. Sterling silver is easily polished using a polishing cloth. Tania Mallow jewellery is certified sterling silver.
