This utterly delightful design celebrates the native New Zealand Pīwakawaka (Fantail) bird in profile. It has been skillfully brought to life in precious metals with its characteristic tail feathers fanned out in celebration as Tania’s favourite bird.
The Pīwakawaka is one of Aotearoa’s most treasured and celebrated native birds. It is impossible not to fall in love with their cheeky chirrups and fluttery movements. Often the companion of bush walkers they follow along collecting the tiny bugs stirred up by walkers. Spreading their fan shaped tails they will chatter and tell you a story as a sign of appreciation. It is clear to see why they are known as the ‘messengers’ of our native bird population.
