A delightful Kākāpō necklace cleverly cast in sterling silver from an original Tania Mallow carving, finished with a sterling silver chain and clasp.
The Kākāpō was crowned as winner of the New Zealand native bird of the year 2020! After watching video clips of the Kākāpō you will see why! We won't give anything away except that these adorable, inquisitive and unique birds are flightless and nocturnal. They can live to be 100 years old and have sadly become critically endangered.
Tania’s tribute to the Kākāpō is not only beautiful in her rendering of its soft facial whiskers but also in the deep little eyes. It is hard not to fall in love with this necklace and want to represent the Kākāpō in your everyday look. Wearing this necklace may be the only way that we will be able to see the Kākāpō in daily life.
The bird range has a beautiful weighty feel. Like many of Tania Mallow's other pieces they are created with comfort and quality at the forefront. Materials are not spared on her necklaces and wearing them feels amazing. This necklace is enhanced by a skillful oxidization technique which brings the carved lines to life.
Sterling silver is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% pure silver. The alloy composition results in a metal that is very durable and long lasting. Sterling silver is easily polished using a polishing cloth. Tania Mallow jewellery is certified sterling silver.
