Playful Kererū earrings cleverly cast in sterling silver from an original Tania Mallow carving, finished with sterling silver hooks.
The Kererū (Dove or wood pigeon) is one of largest native birds in New Zealand. Their beautiful shimmery green and purple feathers are contrasted by their creamy white chests. As fruit eaters they are vital to the pollination of native New Zealand plants. Often depicted in art they are similarly created in Tania’s signature etched / illustrative style of jewellery making. The detail in this Kererū is difficult to capture in photography. His commanding presence is shown in Tania’s beautifully carved profile and his chest is textured in a way that appears white due to the light shimmering off Tania’s fine etching.
The bird range has a beautiful weighty feel. Like many of Tania Mallow's other pieces they are created with comfort and quality at the forefront. Materials are not spared on her jewellery and wearing them feels amazing. These earrings are enhanced by a skillful oxidization technique which brings the carved lines to life.
Sterling silver is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% pure silver. The alloy composition results in a metal that is very durable and long lasting. Sterling silver is easily polished using a polishing cloth. Tania Mallow jewellery is certified sterling silver.

I love these earrings! They are high quality and lovely. They're a bit bigger than I usually wear for earrings, but not too heavy. I would definitely recommend these to anyone who loves kereru and wants them to go with them everywhere they go. ;)
Perfect pieces for celebrating one of the many special taonga in Aotearoa, the Kererū
