Adorable Pīwakawaka earrings cleverly cast in sterling silver from an original Tania Mallow carving, finished with sterling silver hooks.
This utterly delightful design celebrates the native New Zealand Pīwakawaka (Fantail) bird in profile. It has been skillfully brought to life in precious metals with its characteristic tail feathers fanned out in celebration as Tania’s favorite bird.
The Pīwakawaka is one of Aotearoa’s most treasured and celebrated native birds. It is impossible not to fall in love with their cheeky chirrups and fluttery movements. Often the companion of bush walkers they follow along collecting the tiny bugs stirred up by walkers. Spreading their fan shaped tails they will chatter and tell you a story as a sign of appreciation. It is clear to see why they are known as the ‘messengers’ of our native bird population.
“The Pīwakawaka or Fantail is one of my favorite New Zealand birds. They are so joyful and playful and always make me smile.”
The bird range has a beautiful weighty feel. Like many of Tania Mallow's other pieces they are created with comfort and quality at the forefront. Materials are not spared on her jewellery and wearing them feels amazing. These earrings are enhanced by a skillful oxidization technique which brings the carved lines to life.
Sterling silver is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% pure silver. The alloy composition results in a metal that is very durable and long lasting. Sterling silver is easily polished using a polishing cloth. Tania Mallow jewellery is certified sterling silver.

Absolutely love these earrings. I am always getting comments on them from everyone. My favourite pair of earrings yet!
Love these fantail earrings, they are a good weight and size. Same size fantails as my Tania Mallow fantail necklace. Love wearing them
Purchased the fantail earrings for my partner to give me for Christmas (lol!). They are delicate and exquisite, just like the birds. Beautiful work, I will treasure them!
