A delicate Toutouwai necklace perfectly depicting the Toutouwai in etched sterling silver, sitting upon a branch, cleverly cast in sterling silver from an original Tania Mallow carving, finished with a sterling silver chain and clasp.
The Toutouwai (Robin) is a small native New Zealand bird found mostly in forest or bushland areas particularly in the South Island. They are a curious little bird and will often approach you and stay close by, quietly observing as you go about your bush walk.
Tania Mallow’s memorable experience with the Toutouwai is evident in her attention to every detail in this piece. The large watchful eye, feathery tummy and delicate legs sit in profile on a wee branch.
“I had a lovely encounter with a Robin on my latest trip to the South Island whilst on a bush walk which will stay with me always.”
The bird range has a beautiful weighty feel. Like many of Tania Mallow's other pieces they are created with comfort and quality at the forefront. Materials are not spared on her jewellery and wearing them feels amazing. This necklace is enhanced by a skillful oxidization technique which brings the carved lines to life.
Sterling silver is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% pure silver. The alloy composition results in a metal that is very durable and long lasting. Sterling silver is easily polished using a polishing cloth. Tania Mallow jewellery is certified sterling silver.
